Obituary of Joseph Casel

Joseph "Big Joe" Casel, 92, of 146 Hazeltine Ave., Jamestown, passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 in WCA Hospital. He was born November 15, 1922 in Jersey City, NJ the son of the late Sam and Anna Casamento. Joe was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII. For many years, he along with his family, owned and operated Big Joe's Fruit Market in Warren, PA. His market put Venture Town on the map. He will be remembered as a hard worker and devoted family man. Surviving are his six children, JoAnn Casel of Buffalo; Joseph W. Casel, James E. Casel, Joette J. Casel all of Jamestown; Joy H. Ellinor of Virginia Beach, VA; Jess R. Casel of Jamestown; 13 grandchildren, Joseph J. Casel, Jeremy J. Casel, Josh E. Casel, Justin M. Casel, Jason W. Casel, Christopher J. Casel, Lynn E. Casel, JoAnn E. Casel, Cody Casel DeLong, Michael A. Ellinor, Matthew C. Casel, Jake R. Casel, Sarah M. Casel; five great grandchildren; and three brothers, Sam, Bernie, and Nate. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty E. Kaufeld Casel whom he married May 4, 1943 and who died April 11, 2010; and several brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. John L. Kuhlmann will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer, NY. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
