Obituary of Joyce P. Saxton

Joyce P. Saxton, 81, formerly of Lakewood and Falconer, passed away Tuesday March 3, 2015 in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. An area resident most of her life, she was born December 17, 1933 in Flushing, Long Island. Joyce was a 1951 graduate of the former Lakewood High School. She had worked for the Village of Lakewood, both in the Clerk's Office and as a dispatcher for the Lakewood Police Department. Joyce retired from the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office where she worked as a dispatcher for many years. She loved knitting, crafts, and any little toy that made people laugh. Joyce was most well known for her great sense of humor and her gift of sharing with others. Surviving are her children, Paul Saxton (Cheryl) of Zeeland, MI; Deanna Dahlgren (David) of Busti, NY; Val Tigh (Karen Macartney) of Allegany, NY; Norbert Haupt (Trisha Landoni) of San Diego, CA; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her former husband, Robert Saxton; four brothers, John and Dean Oberg, Kenneth and Robert Peterson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and of course, she loved her dear dog Chipper. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marian and John Oberg; Kenneth Peterson; and a brother, Randall Oberg. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ Chapel at Lutheran Social Services, 715 Falconer Street, Jamestown. The Rev Daniel S. Rumfelt, pastor will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
