Obituary of Lamona L. Meekins

Lamona L. Meekins, 79, formerly of Bemus Point, passed away Thursday April 9, 2015 in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born November 24, 1935 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Bert and Lillian Carlson Lofgren. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and in earlier years, worked at the former Art Metal Corp., WCA Hospital, and in the office of Dr. Scarpino. Lamona was a member of Thule Lodge #127, and Ingjald Lodge #65 I.O.V. (Viking Lodge). She enjoyed cooking, canning, and shopping. Lamona will be remembered most for her dedication to her family. Surviving are three sons, Scott (Paula) Meekins, Kris Meekins, and Kurt (Duwena) Meekins, all of Bemus Point; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Meekins of Jamestown; Kraig, Bert, Connor, David, and Elysa Meekins, all of Bemus Point; Gabrielle and Nicholas Coleman, both of Delaware; Chelsea Baron of Panama; a sister, Sharon Garrison of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard J. Meekins whom she married June 20, 1959 and who died November 25, 2008; and a granddaughter, Kristen E. Meekins who died December 26, 2010. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Kibbe will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery.
