Obituary of Alberta Lois Nelson

Alberta Lois Nelson, 89, formerly of Schuyler St. and Delevan Ave. Jamestown, passed away at 5:34 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born April 7, 1926 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Albert Karl and Flossie Marie Stevens Anderson. She was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School. Before her retirement she was employed by the Jamestown Board of Education, working as a teacher's aide for many years at Persell Elementary School. She had also assisted her husband and son with bookkeeping needs for their business. In earlier years she was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was very active with the Thule Lodge # 127 VASA Order of American, where she served as lodge treasurer for many years. She also taught Sunday school at the former First United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and loved animals, especially her cats. Surviving is a daughter, Debra Kay (Jud) White of Westfield, NY, a son, J. Steven (Lynn M. Johnson) Nelson of Jamestown, four grandchildren, Eliza L. Nelson of Miami, FL, Ashley M. (Christopher) Sheldon of Cincinnati, OH, Ryan L. Johnson of Cleveland, OH, Krista N. Johnson of Seattle, WA, a great grandson, Mac Benedict Sheldon, her sister in law, Allie Nelson Withers of Jamestown, her nieces, Trudi Rasmussen, Nancy Warring, her nephew, Dr. David Withers and several great nieces and great nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Nels John Nelson whom she married June 5, 1948 and who died January 1, 2015 and a sister, Alice Marie Chase who died in 1991. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, Chaplain of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
