Obituary of James J. Schmitt

James J. Schmitt Jr., 55 of Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly Sunday April 26, 2015 in the Emergency Room at WCA Hospital. He was born May 29, 1959 in Tacoma, Washington the son of James J. and Ann Cody Schmitt Sr. James was a 1978 graduate of Jamestown High School and received his Associates degree in Automotive Technology from SUNY Alfred. He was employed as an Automotive Technician at Ed Shults Chevrolet. James was a member of the Kiantone Congregational Church. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association; and a member of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association where he served as State Light Rifle Director for many years. He was also an active member of the Jamestown Rifle Club, especially with their youth program. James loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He will be sadly missed by his best friend and wife Jennifer, and by all who he touched. Surviving besides his father of Spring Hill, FL are his wife, Jennifer Canfield Schmitt whom he married April 20, 2013; his sister, Patricia Schmitt-Slaughter of Erie, PA; his nephew, Alex Slaughter of Erie, PA; his uncle, Francis "Skip" Schmitt and aunt, Sylvia Schmitt of Florida; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Kiantone Congregational Church. The Rev. Melvin R. McGinnis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home.
