Obituary of Terrell Garfield

Terrell E. "Terry" Garfield, 68, 1084 Forest Avenue Extension, died Wednesday April 29, 2015, in his home. An area resident all of his life, he was born October 9, 1946, in Jamestown, the son of the late Robert and Marilyn Ericson Garfield. He and his wife, Barbara, would have celebrated their 47th anniversary on May 3 this year. He was 1964 graduate of Southwestern Central School and was a Vietnam War veteran serving 2 tours of duty in the US Navy from 1964-70 aboard the USS Ranger and USS Constellation. He worked various jobs for International Union of Operating Engineers and did oil and gas well sites with heavy equipment. For 38 years he owned and operated T. E. Garfield Excavating. He was a member of War Vets Recreation, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and Carroll Lodge F&AM. Terry exhibited unconditional generosity to his friends and family. He would do anything for others when asked and was a genuine friend with a unique sense of humor. He believed success was not luck, but a byproduct of one's determination and hard work. He had the ability to fix anything from washing machines to bulldozers. He was notorious for his colloquialisms the favorite of which was, "Glad you got to see me." He enjoyed working on 4 wheelers, hunting, building ponds with heavy equipment and giving nicknames to everyone. His grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. "Bop" was always there for them and made a point of sharing special time with each one. Surviving are his wife the former Barbara Olson, whom he married May 3, 1968; three children Dena (Jeremy) Hirliman and Mia Garfield (Shayne Mason) both of Jamestown and Seth (Dawn) Garfield of Knoxville, TN; a son-in-law Jason Eggleston of Panama; eight grandchildren Sawyer and Nolan Eggleston, Sophia Mason, Lauren and Jed Hirliman, Jacob Quattrone, Isabella and Maxwell Garfield, and a sister Roberta Bloomquist of Atlanta, GA. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Busti Church of God. Rev. Roy E. Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.
