Obituary of Sandra Margaret Wheeler

Sandra Margaret Swanson Wheeler, 71, of Lakewood, NY and San Mateo, CA, passed away April 6, 2015, in the Kaiser Hospital, Redwood City, CA. She was born March 8, 1944 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Clarence and Madelene Riegel Swanson. Sandra was a 1962 graduate of Southwestern Central School and earned her bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Buffalo in 1966 and her master's degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Before her retirement she was a school teacher in the San Francisco area schools for 34 years, retiring as Math Department Chairman at the El Camino High School in 2003. In earlier years she taught mathematics for a brief time in North Carolina. Surviving are her husband, James E. Wheeler whom she married October 1, 2005, a son, Christopher (Erin) Wheeler of Frewsburg, NY, a daughter, Pamela Gifford of Stedman, NY, five grandchildren, a step-brother, Franklin (Linda) Yartz of Ashville, NY, a step-sister, Marilyn Yartz Gustafson of FL and her cousins, Joann (Bruce) Robinson of Jamestown, Jerome (Kay) Swanson of Elk Grove Village, IL. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her step- mother Hazel Yartz Swanson. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, in the First Covenant Church, Jamestown. The Rev. Daniel Soderberg will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received at a luncheon to follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
