Obituary of Douglas Martin Olson
Douglas Martin Olson, 87, of the Fluvanna-Townline Rd. Jamestown, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015, in the UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA.
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 26, 1928 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Martin Gustaf and Cora Ellen Nelson Olson.
He was a graduate of the former Bemus Point High School and served for six years in the Company E, New York Army National Guard.
In earlier years he was employed as a milkman for the former City View Dairy.
Doug was a longtime member of the Fluvanna Fire Department and was also an accomplished drummer on the steamboats on Chautauqua Lake. He was one who would always greet you with a smile and a joke.
Surviving are two sons, James D. (Regina) Olson of Leesburg, VA, Thomas M. (Karen) Olson of Highland, IN, six grandchildren, Christine Olson Gear (Jason) of Redford, MI, Michael Olson (Liz) of Gainesville,VA, Thomas Olson, Jr. (Becky) of Merrillville, IN, Justin Olson (Heather) of Naperville, IL, Nathanial Olson of Mesa, AZ, Jacob Olson (Misty) of Highland, IN and 17 great grandchildren
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Joan Marie Maier Olson, whom he met roller skating at Midway Park, and married September 10, 1950 and who died June 28, 1977.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015, in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Jason Gear of the Grace Baptist Church, Livonia, MI along with his son Thomas Olson will officiate. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home.
