Obituary of Phillip G. Gibbs
Phillip G. Gibbs, 52, of 128 Lakeview Ave, Lakewood, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 24, 2015.
He was born August 29, 1962 in Jamestown, a son of Ella Mae Crosby Gibbs and the late George T. Gibbs.
Phillip was a graduate of Panama Central School where he enjoyed a successful wrestling career, including Sectional Champ. He also received a degree from Jamestown Business College.
From 1983 to 1998, he was employed by Chautauqua Hardware. Phillip then worked for TitanX from 1998 until 2012 when he began working for Cummins Engine. He had returned to TitanX this past year and was serving as a supervisor. He had also done carpentry work in Texas in earlier years.
Phillip looked forward to yearly trips to the beach in North Carolina. He was a loyal Oakland Raiders fan, was proud of his Mustang, and loved his dogs, Cujo and Raider.
He is survived by his mother, Ella Mae and her companion, Howard Dobson; and his siblings, Rodney (Charlene) Gibbs, Roger (Debbie) Gibbs, Cynthia (Jim) Yoder, Sandra (Lynn Terry) Moller, as well as his brother and best friend, Brian (Debbie Crandall) Gibbs. Phillip is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own children.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents Charles & Myrtie Gibbs and Carl & Claudia Crosby.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 1st in the Lakewood Baptist Church. Friends will be received at the church from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday prior to the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team, 15 E. Chautauqua St., Mayville, NY 14757; or the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd., Jamestown, NY 14701.
