Obituary of Murray S. Marsh
Murray S. Marsh, 83, of Homewood Residence Assisted Living in Naples, Florida, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015 in Florida. He was born August 1, 1931 in Kennedy, NY, a son of the late Ellis and Gertrude Abbey Marsh, and was a long time resident of Jamestown.
He was a 1948 graduate of Falconer High School and attended numerous management courses at Cornell University. He was also a veteran of the US Army and was a Sergeant First Class serving overseas in Trieste, Italy.
Mr. Marsh was the long time Chief Executive Officer of WCA Hospital and was instrumental in the formation of the Starflight program. He served on the boards of the Western New York Healthcare Association, Healthcare Association of New York State - receiving its Distinguished Service Award, Voluntary Hospitals of America Upstate New York, Great Lakes Healthcare Network, Westlink and many local civic organizations. He also served on numerous malpractice insurance company boards and participated in a rotating hospital executive exchange program in the Czech Republic with Voluntary Hospitals of America. He was a past President of the Western New York Healthcare Financial Management Association. Earlier in his career, he worked for the National Cash Register Company in Bradford, PA and was a member of its Century Point Club for outstanding sales.
Mr. Marsh was a member of the Mount Moriah Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, The Justice Robert H. Jackson Lodge of Research, as well as several area Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts. He was a long time member of Moonbrook Country Club and the Jamestown Skeet Club, where he was the 1976 Skeet Club Champion. He especially enjoyed his many trips to Pinehurst, North Carolina for golf, duck hunting trips to Mud Island, Canada and his winters at the Wilderness in Naples, Florida. He was extraordinarily proud of his children and grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife, Carol Ruth Schreck Marsh of Naples, whom he married August 30, 1952; five daughters; Brenda (Jonathan Weiss) Marsh of Brooklyn, NY, Lori (David) Goehring of Winchester, MA, Cindy Marsh of Naples, FL, Lisa (George Farenthold) Ryerson of Aurora, NY, and Julie (Timothy) Dalton of Naples, FL; and a son, Murray S. "Skip" (Karla) Marsh, Jr. of Asheboro, NC. Also surviving are grandchildren Emma and Nathaniel Goehring, Annie, Carol and Julie Ryerson, and Andy Dalton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only sibling, a brother, Milton Marsh.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel K. Nagle will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be held at 6:45 p.m.
