Obituary of Duane M. Butler
Duane M. Butler, 85, of 279 Prospect St. Jamestown, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident, he was born March 3, 1930 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Floyd and Leila Terry Butler.
Before his retirement in 1995, he was employed as a polisher for the Jamestown Metal Products and in earlier years was employed by the former Inter Royal Company.
He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was a member of the Samuel Derby Post 556, American Legion, Frewsburg and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. He was a former member of the Ingjald Lodge 65, Independent Order of the Vikings and the Jamestown Eagles Lodge, where he served as Past President and Trustee.
He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved painting, golf, bowling, horseshoe's and was an accomplished woodworker. He also taught roller skating and dance at the former Celoron Roller Rink and participated in many skating shows with his wife over the years.
Surviving are his wife the former Caryl J. Meehan whom he married February 4, 1950, two sons, David Butler of Jamestown, NY, Donald (Tabetha) Butler of Ashville, NY, five grandchildren, Dawn Marie (Timothy) Kaylor of Shreveport, LA, David D. Butler of Jamestown, Michael S. (Erica) Butler of Charlotte, NC, Peter S. Butler of Geneseo, NY, Molly T. Butler of Ashville, five great grandchildren including Dean, Alexa and Amelia Kaylor.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son Daniel D. Butler who died July 29, 2011 and his daughter in law VickiJo Butler who died December 7, 2009.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Michael Lennon of St. James Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015, in the funeral home.
