Obituary of Gertrude L. Loverme
After 91 years with us, Gertie has now left us. She died Friday July 3, 2015, in WCA Hospital.
Gertie worked for 38 years at R.R. Rogers School as a teacher's aide. She loved her job, co-workers and kids. While at Rogers School she organized the PTA, was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and whenever asked, she volunteered with a smile on her face.
Gertie was a lifelong resident of Jamestown and Frewsburg. She was a kind and giving person to all who were lucky enough to know her. Gertie's open door house was the gathering place for many friends, family, neighbors and relatives. She had 14 boys, now fine young men, and neighborhood kids at her house for many years. Nights and weekends were spent around the Ben Franklin Stove in her garage. Countless hours of games, fun, food and just good old chit chat were spent by the fire. The coffee pot was always on and Gertie always had homemade treats for everyone. Winter hours were spent at the kitchen table along with coffee, treats and homemade pizza. She never turned anyone away and there was always room for one or two more at the table.
Her hobbies were NASCAR, local racing, high school football games, NFL, camping and fishing. She enjoyed crafts and was an avid reader. She enjoyed all these things until poor health most of them away. She still enjoyed watching sports on TV.
She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Gertie touched many people's lives and left a lasting impression along the way. She always said be kind and helpful to each other. Good-bye for now until we meet again, Gertie.
