Obituary of Joseph S. Portale

Joseph S. Portale, 89, of Wabasso, FL, formerly of Lakewood, NY, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015, in the Select Specialty Hospital, Erie, PA. A Florida resident for the past 30 years, he was born December 9, 1925 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Carmello and Anna Dianni Portale. Joe was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp serving from February 27, 1944 to November 11, 1946 during World War II. Before his retirement he was employed as a milkman for the former Dairylea, where he worked for 23 years. While living in Florida he and his wife owned and operated a retail store for 11 years. He was a member of the Lakewood Memorial Post 1286, American Legion, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the Italian-American Club and the VFW Post 10210 in Sebastian, FL. Surviving is a daughter, Patricia Portale of Lakewood, NY, a son, Joseph S. Portale, Jr. of Idaho Falls, ID,, two sisters, Carmella Scime of Williamsville, NY, Josephine Frattalone of Zephyrhills, FL and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Carlene J. "Charlie" Anderson Portale whom he married January 14, 1950 and who died January 7, 1987, two brothers, Carl and Sebastian Portale and a sister, Ann Guiffreda. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by the family. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
