Obituary of Carl L. Carlson
Carl L. "Bud" Carlson, 84, formerly of 209 State St. Jamestown, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident, he was born July 23, 1931 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Carl S. and Ruth G. Cederholm Carlson.
Bud was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School and had attended Alfred University.
Before his retirement, he was employed as a machinist and inspector for the MRC-TRW Company where he worked for 48 years.
In previous years he was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was a Scoutmaster for Troop 63, Boy Scouts of America, at Holy Trinity. For many years Bud was involved with Little League Baseball having served as league President and also coached for several years. He was an avid bowler and really enjoyed raising fish and tending to his large aquarium in his home. He also loved taking care of his dogs Ceasar, Sahara and Ty.
Bud loved spending time with children teaching them baseball. He was more of a father figure than an uncle to many of his family and was a "grandpa" to everyone. He will be remembered by many for sitting in his chair behind the backstop at the Little League field at Bergman Park watching game after game, giving tips and teaching the kids.
Surviving are his sister, Elizabeth M. Carlson with whom he made his home, a nephew, Keith (Julie) Carlson of Jamestown, 8 grandchildren, Keith Campbell, Matt Carlson, Mark Carlson, Meghan Carlson, Tyler Jones, Tarrin Jones, Tristian Jones and Tanner Jones, as well as 20 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father who died August 16, 1982 and his mother who died April 27, 1978.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor of the Fluvanna Community Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral home.
