Obituary of Ruth H. Wilcox

Ruth H. Wilcox, 92, of 80 Pershing Avenue, died Thursday July 30, 2015, peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family. A native of Bern, Switzerland, she was born May 14, 1923, a daughter of the late Albert Charles Horlacher and Elise Steiger Horlacher. Ruth came to the US in 1948, when she was 25 years old. Ruth was educated in Switzerland where she received her certificate in Veterinary Medicine and then received her certificate in microbiology master's degree in microbiology. She was employed by Jamestown General Hospital for 37 years as the head of the bacteriology department. She continued to work at the Westfield Memorial Hospital where she helped train lab technicians. Ruth was a devoted member of Bethel Lutheran Church for 48 years. Her church family meant a great deal to her especially Pastor Allan who continued to minister to her despite her inability to attend services. Ruth was an avid and accomplished china painter and a member of the Chautauqua County Porcelain Artists and Southern Tier Porcelain Artist. Surviving are four children Nana (Gene) Anderson of Lander, PA, Marc Wilcox of Jamestown, Heidi (Justin) Bird of Falconer and Laurie Wilcox of West Ellicott; five grandchildren Matthew Bird, Tammi Lundmark, Gene Anderson, Jr, Jason Anderson and Jarod Anderson; eleven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; special caregiver Samantha Michael and her loving cat Oliver. She was preceded in death by her husband Harrison R. Wilcox, whom she married February 6, 1948 and who died June 10, 1973; a son Albert Charles Wilcox and a sister Rita Horlacher. Friends will be received from 1-4 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in Bethel Lutheran Church. Rev. Alan W. Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750 .
