Obituary of Carol W. Fiorenzo
Carol Jean (Washburn) Fiorenzo, 71, of 4644 Anderson Drive, Bemus Point, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, in WCA Hospital surrounded by her family.
Carol was born on October 9, 1943 in Dunkirk, N.Y., a daughter of the late Leland and Beatrice (Robinson) Washburn.
Raised in Fredonia, N.Y., Carol graduated from Fredonia High School in 1961, furthering her education at Jamestown Community College. In 1963, Carol relocated to Jamestown, marrying the love of her life, Rick, with whom she celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary on October 5, 2013. Settling in Bemus Point in 1967, Carol spent time working with her husband in the family business, Jamestown Farm Supply, and finding time to raise her three children, whom she cherished. In later years, Carol became involved in Real Estate, retiring as a Licensed Real Estate Broker in 1993 due to illness.
In her earlier years, Carol was a very active and energetic young woman. An avid reader, she also enjoyed playing bridge, water-skiing, running, tennis, golf, cooking and gardening. She will be remembered by friends and family for her mischievous sense of humor. Her favorite holiday was Halloween when she enjoyed decorating the house and dressing up in costume to celebrate.
She and Rick traveled extensively, visiting a number of the 50 states including Hawaii and Alaska. Their many adventures included trips to Italy, Mexico, Jamaica, France and Switzerland, where she celebrated her 30th birthday. A huge animal lover, Carol fondly reminisced about her childhood pets, "Kingie" and "Thorndyke". She raised and nurtured several other pets throughout her life, the last being her beloved cat Pumpkin.
In her later years, Carol fought a courageous battle against Multiple Sclerosis, rarely complaining, never asking "Why me?", and was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Seth (Susan) of Ashville, N.Y., daughters Leigh Bove', of North Tonawanda, N.Y., and Kara (Nathanael) Bodie of Divide, CO; grandsons Cole Bodie and Christopher Bove'; a sister, Virginia (Edmund) VanDenVouver of Dunkirk, N.Y.; a brother, Richard (Sandy) Washburn of Webster, N.Y., and many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
One of her biggest joys in life was spending time with her grandsons during their many visits. She enjoyed teaching them classic nursery rhymes and rare facts.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by an infant sister, Darlene Joy Washburn.
Friends will be received at the Lind Funeral Home, Jamestown, N.Y. from 2-4 and 7-9 on Monday, August 3rd. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, August 4th at Christ First United Methodist Church in Jamestown at 1:00 p.m. followed by a brief reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Bemus Point Volunteer Fire Department in Bemus Point, N.Y. or the Lawrence Jacobs, MD Endowed Scholarship at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine: www.giving.slu.edu. Dr. Jacobs, Carol's first neurologist, was a pioneer in the research and treatment of Multiple Sclerosis at the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and someone she was very fond of.
