Obituary of James F. Whitmeyer
James F. "Jim" Whitmeyer, formerly of 21 Waldemere Way, Lakewood, NY, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015.
Jim was born October 16, 1927 in Rome, NY a son of the late Elmer and Beatrice Agan Whitmeyer.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving from September 4, 1945 to March 18, 1948. He served under the direction of Admiral Byrd , on an expedition to the South Pole in 1947.
Jim was very active in the Jamestown community serving as a city councilman and was involved in several business ventures including Bausch and Lomb, JW Realty, and Jamestown Plumbing and Heating.
Surviving are his four children, Susan (Dave) Popelka of Lincoln, NE, Nancy (Mark) Johnson of Lakewood, NY, Charlie (Sandy) Whitmeyer of Phoenix, AZ, Tom (Mary Ann) Whitmeyer of Washington, D.C., eight grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Wilma K. "Billie" Matheson Whitmeyer who died March 23, 2014.
A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 in the Gloria Del Lutheran Church, Lakewood, NY. The Rev. Timothy Hoyer, pastor will officiate. Friends and relatives of Jim are welcome to attend the service.
