I was so sad to hear of Tom's passing. He was a wonderful person. I always admired him and he was a mentor and good friend to Bob. His sense of humor and that little smirk after he would tell a little anecdote or story, like " I have shoes older than you". My love to you Bev, it's strange, not knowing about Tom, the last few days I have felt compelled to call you, I wish I would have picked up the phone.

Dear family members of Tom's,
I student taught under Tom at Southwestern, and will never forget the countless lessons that I learned from him. I am now in my 27th year of teaching science and still recall and practice techniques he taught me. He was so supportive and patient and was able to offer criticism in a gentle way that made it easy to take and to grow from the advice. I will never forget him and am so thankful that I had the privilege of teaching under him back in 1989.
Please know that he has touched so many lives in such a positive way. I know this for sure when talking with students, and I know that he definitely shared his love for teaching with me. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I am so very grateful for the influence he had in my life.

I read the obituary of your loved one. I'm sorry for your loss. The pain, the grief, and the feelings of helplessness can seem unbearable. At such times, we need to go to God’s Word for comfort. "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." John 5:28, 29. "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Mr. Lingenfelter was a wonderful teacher--I vividly remember doing experiments in his classroom in 1971-72. One involved graphing the ocean bottom, and was such a long piece of paper that we had to do it in the hallway. Another involved taking the temperature in the classroom at multiple points and creating a 3-D map of the room. All of my science teachers at SWCS were great, but I have a special place in my heart for Mr. Lingenfelter.

So sorry to hear of the death of your husband and father. I remember him fondly as both a teacher and as a supportive parent and regular presence at athletic events in which Sheilah and I both participated. Great sense of humor and good eye with the camera. I still have many of the pictures he gave me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I have many fond memories,..some from the classroom, but most from our many summers working together. Those were good times. Black Joe, yellow-painted pry bars and 'discussing' who has the better tape measure (Lufkin vs. Stanley)...just some of the treasures etched in my memory banks!
Please accept our condolences and know you will be in our prayers as you navigate these days ahead.

Mr. Lingenfelter (aka Tom Tom, Ling Ling) was one of my favorite high school teachers. He always found a way to make the class material fun and interesting. In addition to my student-teacher relationship, I was also blessed to have been able to work with him on several construction projects throughout my high school and college years. Other fond memories include the annual Credit Union dinners where he and Bev would orchestrate a game show where they would reward those who wore the right color socks or had the right part to their hair with free samples. Later, I was able to enjoy his wit and humor during the weekly Monday morning 'breakfast club' of (mainly) SWCS retired teachers. My sincere condolences go out to Bev, Sheila, Tommy and their families. He was a great man, teacher and friend.
