Obituary of Charles W. Brown

Charles W. Brown, 93, formerly of Falconer, NY, passed from this life to his heavenly home at 11:36 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, he was born October 5, 1922 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Charles W. Brown and the late Ruth Dora Peterson Larson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II in Barri, Italy during Little Pearl Harbor and also served during the Korean War as a gunner mate on a Merchant Marine ship. Before his retirement in 1988, he was employed by the Jamestown Metal Corporation for 10 years. He had also worked for Hopes Windows for 16 years, Laidlaw Bus Service and following his retirement he was a driver for Advanced Transportation, until the age of 77. He attended the Jamestown Community Chapel formerly the Weakland Chapel. He was a member of the former John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veteran of Foreign Wars and a former member of the Ira Lou Spring Post 149, American Legion. He had a keen interest in astronomy and was membership chairman for the Marshall Martz Observatory. He also built his own telescope which took him a year to grind the lens. He was well liked by all the staff at Heritage Park and his wife would bring his beloved dog "Buttons" to see him almost every day for the past several years. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, the former June A. Wolfe, whom he married November 16, 1973, two sons, Randall Brown of Falconer, NY, Bryan (Linda) Brown of Sinclairville, NY, nine grandchildren, Stacey Green, Emily Brown, Savanah Brown all of Falconer, Christopher Brown of Jamestown, Richard Brown of Sinclairville, Samantha Milliman of Jamestown, Jason Brown of Ashville, NY, Michael Brown of Milan, MI, Jeffrey Brown of East Aurora, NY, several great grandchildren, five step-children, John, Samuel, Gary, Scott and Valerie Grist and several step-grand and step-great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Betty Taft. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund, Chaplain of Heritage Park will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
