David and family,
My mother Beverly Esch and I were so saddened to learn of the loss of your mother yesterday from Mr. Flowers. My family got to know yours when your father accompanied my mother. As a young child, I recall going to visit your mother and father in Maple Springs. David, my mother was so thrilled to see you both earlier this year when you stopped by. Please know that my mother appreciated that! please know that we both are thinking of you and your family at this difficult time,

David and Julie,
I have great memories of playing cards with Virginia and Jim, seeing who could fill up their penny jars, lots of story telling and many laughs. Your mom was always so positive and fun. Our sympathy goes out to you and hopefully you can be comforted in knowing how much your parents were thought of.

David - We were so sorry to hear about your mom. We know its a difficult time and words are simply inadequate. Please know that we greatly enjoyed meeting your mom when she first traveled to Lapwai and talking with her however briefly then and later. I always enjoyed , and still chuckle, recalling her sharing a very early picture of you in your cowboy (or was it Indian?) outfit. Best to you.

I'm lucky to have had the good fortune to have met Virginia and her late husband James, who are likely two of the kindest and warm-hearted people a person could ever meet. Their love for their Dave shines brightly though him and clearly made him the man he his - warm, kind, generous and thoughtful.
Our thoughts are with Dave and his family,
Greg, Ivy and Ari Haller

It was sure an honor and blessing to meet James & Virginia Cummings years ago here in Idaho. You could sure tell the moment you met them that they were full of unconditional love for all. I have been thinking of them being together once again. Prayers of comfort and peace to the family and friends. James & Virginia have truly been and continue to be a blessing to the Nez Perce Tribe through all they poured into their son, Dave. God ki piwau kunyu hanaka (God be with you 'til we meet again" in the Nez Perce language). Love & Prayers: Bill & Lori Picard and family.

"Tell me a story", "What do you know today" are two phrases that I'll be using often with my grand kids. Those are the first words I heard every night. I used to say you probably have better stories than me....so spill one. Virginia had such a great sense of humor. She would shock me by saying or doing something unexpected......stick her tongue out at me...if I won a hand of cards....use a word in scrabble ...queer..then give me a look. She never wanted to burden anyone. Her grandchildren were so loved by her. Every evening she'd pull table in and talk to each one. I could go on, but now she's no longer in pain, and I will miss her.I had the privilege of knowing her. thank you Virginia for that honor.
