Obituary of Isabelle Wilcox
Isabelle Wilcox, 89, passed away Thursday November 19, 2015. She was born February 20, 1926 in Alexandria, Scotland the daughter of the late James and Mary Rowan McEwan.
A year after WWII ended in Europe, a young Scottish girl left her family and friends in England to begin a new life with the handsome American GI who captured her heart.
Isabelle (Isa) McEwan was on stand-by to fly to America when she was notified there was a seat available. The next morning, her parents said their good-byes and she was on her way to the USA.
Isabelle arrived on Thanksgiving Day 1946 greeted by a thrilled fiancé Leo Wilcox, and her new life began. Their love story continued for almost seventy years in the home Leo built for her and their four daughters, and where she passed away, peacefully with her loving, devoted husband holding her.
Isabelle left a legacy of courage and strength, faith and determination and most of all love and devotion to her husband, her girls and grandchildren. She left an indelible impression on all who knew her.
She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and a member of the Vikings and Thule Lodge.
In addition to her husband Leo, she is survived by her four daughters: Terri (Russ) Cusimano, Maureen (Jeff) Dimas, Elizabeth Chase, Nannette (Tim) Doolittle; eight grandchildren: Kellie (Eogan) O'Donnell, Tricia Cusimano, Adam (Cristen) Dimas, Erik (Linnea) Dimas, Brian (Kim) Chase, Kyle (Amanda) Sorenson, Megan Sorenson, Rebecca Sorenson; six great grandchildren: Alexandra O'Donnell, Lily and Helena Dimas, Thomas Chase, Hannah and Wyatt Sorenson; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Mary McEwan Brumpton; two brothers, Charles and Thomas McEwan; and her son in law Thomas Chase.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday December 3, 2015 in Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday December 2 in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.
