Obituary of Dorothy M. Sperry

Dorothy May VanOrman Sperry, 81 of 170 Lakeview Ave Mayville, NY, formerly of Russell, PA and Cleveland, OH, passed away peacefully Monday December 14, 2015 in WCA Hospital. She was born January 21, 1934 in South Canisteo, NY the daughter of the late Oliver Franklin VanOrman and Bessie Emma Chriscaden VanOrman. Dorothy was a graduate of Warren High School and prior to retirement worked at Sears for many years. She enjoyed collecting owls, watching old TV shows and movies and keeping up with current events. Dorothy also loved word search and crossword puzzles and was a nature lover, spending time at the Audubon Center. Surviving are a son, James P. Sperry of North East, PA; two daughters, Jeanne L. Sperry of Ellington, NY; Amy L. (Curt) Wendell of Dewittville, NY; eight grandchildren: Brandon J. Sperry, Andrea D. Bartlebaugh, Kevin D. Scheller, Jennifer M. Winderl, Michelle R. Torrens, Julie R. Torrens, Rachelle L. Clark, and Jared M. Clark; 13 great grandchildren, and 1 on the way; a sister, Janet VanOrman of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Doris VanOrman Gage, Donald VanOrman, Carl VanOrman, and Joyce VanOrman Weissinger. The family will be present to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
