Obituary of Gladys L. Levine

Gladys Levine, 101 of 965 Southwestern Drive Jamestown, passed away peacefully Saturday December 19, 2015 in her home. A lifelong Busti resident, she was born September 18, 1914 in Penfield, NY the daughter of the late Charles R. and Marie Petersen Wagner. Gladys graduated with Honors from Jamestown High School class of 1931. Prior to her retirement, she was Cafeteria Supervisor at Southwestern Central School and served as Election Inspector for District 13. For over 80 years, she was a member of the Busti Federated Church where she served on the Board of Trustees, was Sunday School Supervisor, youth fellowship leader, youth counselor, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She volunteered at the Red Cross for 30 years, St. Susan's soup kitchen for 10 years, and the former Manor Oak Nursing Home for 15 years. Gladys was a member of the Busti Historical Society, Poetry Club, Philathea Club, and enjoyed traveling. Much of her life was centered on family and church. Surviving are two sons, Richard M. "Dick" Levine of Dunnellon, FL; Daryl R. Levine of Wenatchee, WA; a daughter Candace A. Levine of Whidbey Island, WA; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marquis C. "Mark" Levine whom she married March 31, 1934 and who died January 3, 1999; a grandson Trent Lydic; a sister Margaret Wagner; and a brother Carl Wagner. A memorial service will be announced in the spring by the Lind Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Busti Federated Church, 875 Mill Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.
