Obituary of Jean E. Eddy
Jean E. Morse Eddy, 93, passed away peacefully at her home of over 60 years 301 Maplecrest Ave. Lakewood on Thursday December 17, 2015 surrounded by family and friends.
She was born February 21, 1922 in Silver Creek, NY the daughter of Arthur and Anna Mawher Morse. She was the widow of Ernest Eddy.
Jean graduated from Fredonia High School in 1940 and the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1944. After graduation, she became a school teacher. Except for her first year at Brocton, she spent over 40 years teaching in Jamestown, the majority of time was at Persell School first teaching 2nd grade then moving to 1st grade. She taught two generations of many families. Teaching reading was her passion.
Jean had many hobbies throughout the years including knitting, sewing, ceramics, counted cross stitch, and her last was handmade quilts.
Jean also enjoyed traveling. She visited all 50 states and several foreign countries. While she was able, she went on at least one tour a year.
After retirement, she spent a lot of time volunteering at Reg Lenna Civic Center, the Little Theater, and Lucy Days. She was a member of the Lakewood Golden Agers and participated in many of their activities.
Surviving are her son Steven (Pat) Eddy of Lakewood; five grandchildren, Adam Eddy of West VA; Don (Laura) Smith and Terri Schram both of OH; Melinda Broadwater of Jamestown; Sarah Broadwater of Corry, PA; four great grandchildren, Desiree McClurg of KY; Kevin Bergenstein, Kelly Bergenstein, and Nicole (Adam) Perichak all of OH; three great great grandchildren, Emma Bergenstein, Adison Bergenstein both of OH; and Madison Sorrell of KY; and her best friends and protectors, her grand dogs, Buddy and her special lady Dumas.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a step daughter, Sondra Gass; and two brothers, Grant and Howard Morse.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home where a private service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society 2825 Strunk Road Jamestown, NY 14701.
