Obituary of Shirley M. Baumgartner

Shirley M. Baumgartner, 82, formerly of Main St. Bemus Point, NY, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2016, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A Bemus Point resident since 1986, she was born September 9, 1933 in Erie, PA, a daughter of the late Owen and Lucille Keeler Baumgartner. Shirley was a 1951 graduate of Erie Academy High School and a 1956 graduate of Houghton College. She had also attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where she studied Medical Record Science. Before her retirement she was the Assistant Director of Medical Records for the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine where she worked for over 20 years. She was a member of the St. Timothy Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and was active in Sunday school activities. In earlier years she attended the Glenwood United Methodist Church in Erie, PA. She will be remembered as a very thoughtful and giving person who enjoyed traveling and listening to music. She also enjoyed listening to the radio reading service for the blind. Surviving is her caregiver Mary Ahlstrom of Dewittville, NY. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ada Frances Baumgartner, Doris Baumgartner and her close friend for many years Elizabeth H. Proctor. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Samuel Shreffler, chaplain of Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility will officiate. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery, Erie, PA.
