Obituary of George E. Smith

George E. "Jack" Smith, 81, of Jamestown, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2016 in WCA Hospital. He was born February 22, 1934 in Jamestown and served in the US Army from 1952 until 1957 during the Korean War. Jack had worked for several tree service firms while living in Texas and later was employed by the City of Jamestown. He enjoyed nature and animals. Surviving are two sisters: Marianne Lindberg of Jamestown and Donna Czora of Springville, NY and Plant City, Fla.; a son, Jack Smith of Jamestown and daughter, Jacqueline Erie of Orchard Park, NY; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his father, George V. Smith; mother, Millicent Eckstrom Schroeder; and a brother, Val Smith. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. John L. Kuhlman will officiate. Burial will be in Veteran's Grove of Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for two hours prior to the service, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lind's. The family suggests memorials be made to a local veteran's organization of one's choice.
