Obituary of Mary O. Barnes

Mary O. Barnes, 89, formerly of 47 Charles Street died Monday January 25, 2016 in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She was born September 2, 1926, in Busti, a daughter of the late William and Bernice Smith Olson. She was a 1944 graduate of Lakewood High School and a 1948 graduate of WCA Hospital School of Nursing. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a registered nurse for 41 years having worked for Dr. Nathaniel Barone, Dahlstroms, Bittersweet Home and a private home. She was a member of Zion Covenant Church where she had taught Sunday school. Following retirement she and her late husband spent six weeks every summer traveling across the country in a new Mercury. Mary was a talented at knitting, cross stitch and embroidery. She made beautiful tablecloths and gave one to each of her nieces. Surviving are two sisters Blanche Carlson Tracy of Panama and Irene Berg of Jamestown and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband George Barnes, whom she married in 1959 and who died May 21, 2011 and four brothers George, Arthur, Larry and Clarence Olson. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Samuel Shreffler will officiate. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.
