I had the privilege of knowing Norm when he was attached to the 96th TAS. There was no finer flyer then NA. No one lived life with more gusto. He understood life is fast and truly made the most of it. He introduced me to Bemus Point, Colgate that he adored. He loved where he grew up and his brothers and their families. I got to know Winston as a very good friend because of Norm. This magnetic ball of energy, NA, made a major difference for so many of us. So many memories to cherish. I so thank those wonderful friends and family that were there for him. Norm thanks for everything. I have to believe that Heaven is more fun because you are there. God Bless you, You will be in my heart forever. G-Knee

I was sadly surprised to find out about Norm's death from John Evans, a classmate. I have many cherished memories of the antics and wackiness of a group of us who hung together in Bemus in the early 60's. Norm was a leader of "the pack." I remember flying up unplowed seasonal access roads full of snow - Norm was driving! We shared many brews together both before and after I entered the US Army. When I would come home on leave Norm and I would get together. I was just so sorry I didn't reconnect with him in these later years!

I was a green 2nd Lt. at Wright-Patterson AFB in 1975, fresh out of pilot training. Norm was a "seasoned" Captain, full of life! Underneath that gruff exterior was an intelligent kind soul! He predated "Stormin' Norman" Schwarzkof! The world has lost a gem!

We have been fortunate to have Norm as a Main St. neighbor for the past 12 years. He was always there with a tool, a helping hand, or a cold beer! You just never knew what to expect from across the street. We always looked forward to the additional antics when Jack & Kathy (or just Jack) made their annual trip: up early for coffee on the porch, a well-planned work schedule, followed by a well-executed play schedule, then the calculated trip ("x" number of steps) back home. Norm lived his life to the fullest, his way, right till his final day. RIP our friend...

I knew Norm in the mid 70s as fellow C-130 pilots on our always entertaining flight missions to Kwajalen and through the clouds off Wallops Island. He was a good pilot and even a better character-- Norm knew how to have fun even if we were working in the USAF. We parted ways in 1975 stationed at Kirkland AFB as I left the Air Force to go back to school. But I still remember the great times with Norm. So long, Norm. Maybe that 3rd C-130 ever built (good old 533133) is waiting for you in the heavens.

To Norms family and friends,
My deepest sympathy. What a wonderful man! I met him several years ago inn St. Pete at one of his favorite "haunts". Later he invited me to Bemus Point where he extended his hospitality not only to me but to two friends. I think everyone on Bemus knew him!
We shared many laughs and good times in both Bemus and St. Pete. I,, along with many others, will miss him very much.

Norm (NA) was a very important part of the Head family. Not only was he one of my fathers best friends since kindergarten, he was like an uncle to my brother Corey and I. He also became like a grandfather to my nieces, who he just adored. The countless fun memories will forever be with me.
My thoughts go out to the Rice family. My thoughts also go out to the friends in Bemus who he considered family. I was lucky enough to know how it felt to be part of that adopted family. There will be many events this summer that just won't be the same with out you.
Until I see you again Norm Hooah!!!!!!

Norm will be forever in our hearts and memories.
He played several roles in our family including, Friend, Uncle, Father Figure and as my little girls like to refer to him "Papa Hooah". Many aspects of my life, including my occupation, were decisions made with influence from Norm. He was kind, generous, loyal, honest, and a true friend. I have known Norm for the past 35 years and every year we grew closer.
Our family spent 15+ weekends a year with Norm enjoying New Years, Birthdays, Horse Races, Memorial Day, Golf Trips, Poker Runs, 4th of July, Labor Day and even Christmas. Those weekends will certainly be more difficult this year.
Blue Skies and Tailwinds Norm, we will surely miss you.

Words can't describe what Norm meant to my wife Marcia and I. He afforded us many happy memories, allowing us to be his neighbor, traveling together, teaching me how to ride a m/c, then riding together, sitting on the porch drinking wine, on the dock sharing stories. He was a true gentleman, larger than life. He enjoyed life to the fullest, but was dead serious and by the book when needed. You always knew where you stood with Norm, he was a guy's guy for sure. I never met a man with more integrity. He loved and took care of those that loved and took care of him, his generosity was unparalleled. Many thanks to the true heros that took care of him when he really needed help. To all the guys that helped him move during his illness, to the nurses and home care that comforted him, to the ladies that took the initiative to arrange for home care for Norm when he wanted to come home to his friends. I know he appreciated all the help and his eyes would light the sky when his "girls" came to see him. I will miss my friend, he was truly one of a kind. If only everyone was like Norm the world would be a better place.
forever loved

We shed tears at Norm’s passing and remember all the great family times. We celebrate his life! He was a unique caring brother. He knew how to milk life for all its worth. He will be missed.
We thank Jack and Kathy for taking care of and supporting Norm during the last few weeks of his life. They were the “go to” family members and did a Herculean job during a sad and stressful time in a less than ideal environment. They were mother, father, friend, brother, sister and children all balled into one. They both made this an NA centric time: Bemus, Florida, VFW, Dock People, See-Zurh, etc. This is all stuff he liked, wanted and was part of his life-they made it a reality. They were there for Norm when he needed them and he knew that. Words often do not capture emotion but rest assured we appreciate all that they did for NA.
One of our favorite remembrances of Norm was when he buzzed Bemus in his C130. Windows shook. Thought he would get into big trouble-nope.
