I speak for all the Panama teachers and staff when I say how much we will all miss him and so appreciated our time with him. There aren't many of us that can leave this planet so highly regarded by so many in so many ways.
As for his students, they had the benefit of his ability to pass on his craft for three decades. More important perhaps, they had the privilege to know him as a man. Bless him and his family for all they have been through. My good friend's journey is over.

Mr. Harp was my wood shop teacher. He was always fair, and EXTREMELY patient. I put that in all caps, because with me, Mr. Harp had a wood shop student who was a tortuous combination of ignorance, inexperience, and worse yet, perfectionism.
My favorite memory of Matt is 8th grade shop. I had shop the last quarter of the year, and by the time my lamp design was done with the drafting stage, there was no decent wood left. Some of the pieces still had bark on them! So, the next day, much to Mr. Harp's surprise, my scrawny 8th grade self walked into school with an enormous plank of 1 X 10. He stared at me, over his coffee, and said, "Well, this might be a first...but okay!"
He is gone too soon. My thoughts and condolences to his family, and the Panama Central School Community.

Matt was my first kiss when I was 12 or 13!!!! I used to wait outside on my porch 2 crescent Ave in Lakewood when he would stop and deliver our paper in person. My blessings to you all for your loss. (My maiden name is Janson). I'm thankful there is another angel up above watching over us all. His gift of life will live in our hearts forever. In high school his freshman year as our last names always had lockers close Matt would shut my locker every am we were both at lockers. Had confirmation together at Lakewood United Methodist church. Matt was the light of the group.
