Obituary of Morris E. Giltinan

Morris E. Giltinan Jr., 93, formerly of 59 Meadow Lane Jamestown and Hobe Sound, FL, passed away Saturday April 2, 2016 in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. He was born August 25, 1922 in Jamestown, the son of the late Morris E. and Amanda Colleen Giltinan Sr. Morris was a graduate of Lakewood High School. He was a dynamic football player and was planning on a career in agriculture prior to WWII. During WWII, he served in the US Navy for four years on board the USS Ranger. Following the war, he graduated from the Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston. He worked as a plumber for many years, retiring from the William T. Spaeder Co in Erie. Previously he worked for Sans Corporation and Sharps Heating and Plumbing both in Jamestown; Clarence Weidenbeck Co. of Buffalo; and Davis Eckert Co. of Albany. For over 25 years, he taught Apprenticeship School in Jamestown and was recognized for his selfless dedication to his students. When Morris retired, he moved to Florida where he enjoyed 23 years of retirement. Morris was a member of the First Presbyterian Churches in Jamestown and Hobe Sound, FL; the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club; Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 American Legion; and the Mt. Moriah Lodge F & AM in Jamestown. He was a past member of the Vikings and the Moose. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter, encountering many wonderful experiences with his sons and grandsons. Surviving are three children, Ronald (Patricia) Giltinan of Jamestown; Shari (Bob) Schmidt of Boca Raton, FL; Steve Giltinan of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren, Scott (Rita) Giltinan of Avon, OH; Chris (Sara) Giltinan and Matt Giltinan both of Jamestown; Bob (Natalie) Schmidt of Lakeworth, FL; Mike (Kristina) Schmidt of Boca Raton, FL; Dylan (fiancée Katie) Giltinan and Jane Giltinan both of Portland, OR; seven great grandchildren, Luke, Hannah, Ellie, Morgan, Taylor, Kai, and Emma; and a sister, Lillian Giltinan of Youngsville, PA. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ethel Shannon Giltinan who died August 4, 1993; and brother James Giltinan. A Masonic Lodge service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Christ Chapel of Lutheran Social Services followed by the funeral service officiated by Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, Lutheran Home Chaplain. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service Friday in Christ Chapel of Lutheran Social Services. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assn.
