Brother Mark Ligett posted a condolence
Thursday, June 15, 2023
I only recently learned of the death of Jimmy Riggs. He was my second cousin. My mother, Barbara (Musser) Ligett was a first cousin to Jimmy's mom, Janet (Musser) Riggs. I only met Jimmy once in my life when I spent a few days with him and his family in Chataqua, NY. That would have been back in either the late 1950's or early 1960's---a long time ago. My sympathy to his sister Carol and his wife, children and grandchildren. May he rest in peace. Sincerely, Brother Mark (Terry) Ligett

Sharon, I wish you and your family my sincerest condolences on the passing of Jim. While I wasn't my stepfather and brothers were HUGE Pittsburg fans. I know they enjoyed Jim's biased reporting on his favorite professional teams. They especially liked his many stories and experiences that he wrote about that allowed them to know more about the Pittsburgh athletes and teams that he,so happily wrote about.
He was certainly enjoyed by many, many readers and respected by all.
Peace to the Riggs'family.qEQ3i

Sharon and Family - I am so sorry to read of Jim's death this morning. He had written to me about a month ago, but then I didn't hear from him again. My heart is very saddened. As you know, Jim and I have been close friends since elementary school. His presence will be missed. May he rest in peace, and may you find the strength to get through this difficult time. I am here if you need me. Love and Sincerity, Jill

I had the pleasure of meeting Jim when I worked as a teller at Chase/M&T Bank Drive-In Office. He was one of my favorite customers because he was always so friendly when he came to the bank. We would always end up talking about sports knowing that I like the Yankees and the New York Jets . I would ask him if the Yankees would win the World Series or the Jets winning the Super Bowl. He would get that grin on his face and just shake his head. I like teasing him about the teams knowing what a die hard fan he was of the Pirates and Titans. He will be remembered and missed by many people who had the pleasure of knowing him. My thoughts and prayers are with his Family.

Looking back on the years we worked together, enjoying sports, good times and family...those are memories that I cherish and will forever. Words can't describe it so I won't even try.
Jim was always there for me, whether work or family related.
I can absolutely state that I am proud that Jim Riggs was a major influence in my life and someone who was a sincere friend.
My love of sports and writing continues today because Jim made my job in the Sports Department fun.
It's hard to believe that he's gone...but I know Jim's already working on another column.
To the Riggs' family...the Lord has taken Jim away from us but be comforted knowing that he left touching so many lives in a positive way...especially mine.
Rest In Peace, Jim!!

Wow, truly the loss of an icon and a staple of local sports broadcasting. He was the voice of JHS football, Jamestown Jammers baseball, and various other local sports teams. He did his job so very well. I grew up in Kiantone, and I read his weekly articles religiously. He will definietely be missed. May his soul rest in peace, safe in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.
