Obituary of Jackson F. McIntyre

Jackson F. McIntyre, 86, of Lakewood, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016. He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Sept. 1, 1929, the son of the late Francis R. and Dorothy Vernon McIntyre, and was a graduate of Southwestern Central School. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean War. For 33 years Jack was employed by Empire State Mutual Life Insurance Co. and Unity Mutual Life Insurance where he served as vice president and treasurer, retiring in 1986. He was then affiliated with Winturn/Bender Realty as an Associate Broker until 1994. Jack enjoyed several noteworthy events during his life, including a personal audience with Pope Pius XII in Rome, Italy while serving in the military in 1952; being invited to the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange in 1983; and visiting the Gridiron Club in Washington, DC in 1984. He was a member of the Lakewood American Legion Post 1286 for over 60 years, served on the Busti Recreation Commission and the Village of Lakewood Zoning Board of Appeals, was a former member of the Data Processing Management Assoc. and BOCES Advisory Board, and was a longtime member of the Chautauqua Golf Club. Jack's leisure time was spent enjoying golf, bowling, gardening and photography. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacklyn Thompson McIntyre, whom he married April 3, 1954; two daughters, Michelle P. (Doug Hoisington) McIntyre of Busti and Judith A. (Tom) Swanson of Jamestown; and two grandsons, Peter T. (Patricia) Swanson of Huntington, Long Island and Neil P. Swanson of Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death in 2015 by a sister, Beth Brady. There will be no service or visitation. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery Columbarium. Memorials may be made to the Lakewood Memorial Library, 12 W. Summit St. or the Lakewood Fire Department, 37 J.W. Packard Blvd., both Lakewood, N.Y. 14750.
