Obituary of Patricia Phillips

Patricia M. "Pat" Phillips of 1360 Whitetail Lane, Jamestown, left her family and friends on April 27, 2016. She was the wife of James A. Phillips. Born in North Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of Nicholas E. DeTota and Arnella H. DeTota, formerly of Mattydale, NY. She served as vice president of Acme the Appliance Store, a business founded by her husband that the family sold in 2010. Best known for her life's work as a tireless community volunteer – work for which she was honored as the Jamestown Area Woman of the Year in 2001 – Pat served her community actively as a member and leader of many civic and charitable organizations. Pat was a graduate of Jamestown Community College, and subsequently served her alma mater as a board member and secretary of the JCC Foundation, as chair and co-chair of the JCC Alumni Board, as co-chair of the JCC Capital Campaign and a member of the George Bataitis Open (GBO) Golf Tournament Committee. In 2012 she was honored with the Jamestown Community College John D. Hamilton Award for Service and Dedication to the College. She recently served multiple terms and held various leadership roles on the boards of the WCA Hospital Foundation, The Creche, Inc., and the Jamestown Concert Association. She was a member of the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, where she served on its Scholarship Committee, Grants Committee and 35th Anniversary Celebration Committee. Previously she served as a member of the WCA Auxiliary Board and the local and district boards of the PTA, and volunteered at St. Susan Pantry and as a religious education teacher at St. John's Church. She also served on the Arts Council of Chautauqua County and was a long-time volunteer with the Reg Lenna Civic Center's Arts in Education program. Pat was an enthusiastic golfer, and was a member of Conewango Valley Country Club for many years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons Jason (Sheila Schroeder) of San Francisco, CA, Jonas (Beth) of Chicago, IL, and Jordan (Katherine Beauchamp) of Chicago, IL, and grandchildren Athena and Cooper Phillips, of San Francisco, CA, and Hunter and Sutton Phillips, of Chicago, IL. While there will be no visitation, a memorial celebrating Pat's life will be held this summer, on Friday, August 12; details will be shared closer to that date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor can be made to the Jamestown Community College Foundation, 525 Falconer Street, P.O.
