So sorry and shocked to see Friar Guy had passed. We served together in the Air Force in Alaska on his last tour there. We lost contact after that and I was just now looking on the internet and found this terrible news.
Guy and I met in Anchorage in late 1991 where we had to spend a week processing into King Salmon and attending arctic survival classes. The day we got dropped off on the tundra he made some friends who invited us to watch movies in their room. (He always made friends easily) He wanted to see Robin Hood and that's where he got the name Friar Guy, that and being the chapel manager. It probably didn't stick but that's what everyone called him there and then.
More than once he would come by my room and invite me down to the NCO club. It became commonplace for someone to sit at our table and my job was to go away for a while, as he would do unofficial counseling for someone with a problem. He was not the chaplain so he couldn't do it officially, but people trusted him and would open up to him.
The Fire Department had a toy fire dog on their chow hall table that disappeared one day. For months pictures of it on beaches and in mountains and deserts would show up in the mail. The story was when enough donations came in for Guy's favorite charity in Anchorage, the dog would return. He swears he didn't steal it, but seemed to know an awful lot about it. The donations came in and the dog made it back to its table.
He used to love getting care packages from his sister. He would invite me down to his room to wave the goodies in front of my face.
He used to come down to my room and we would watch badly copied VHS movies and talk for hours about what we wanted to do post-Air Force. His big dream was to go back home, flip houses and help his Mom. I hope he got to do those things.
My deepest condolences go out to his entire family.

I got an email from Facebook saying today was Guy's birthday. When I clicked on his timeline I saw that he had passed away......and kept reading all the messages until I saw his obituary. I am so sorry! I knew Guy through "The Music Man" that JHS did in 1977. Reading about him, I truly wish that I had not left Jamestown and had more contact with him. He was someone special! I pray the memories of him and knowing of ALL the people who loved him will keep him in your heart and ease your time of grieving.

Went on facebook today after not being on facebook for a few days and saw the news about Guy. I am so very saddened and the news has hit me like a ton of bricks. I met guy when he showed up as my administrative assistant at Orthocare in 1993 ( part of the Resource Center years ago). Guy and I became close friends and after we left the resource center, he went to work for my husband at IRR supply. Guy was the most wonderful employee and brought joy to the work place each and every day. To this day,my husband tells Guy 'Furlowski' stories and we laugh so hard at his antics that were intended to entertain and uplift his fellow workers. I know that down the road, when I think often of Guy, I will smile and that would make him happier than my tears. After my husband and i moved to reno, i would talk to Guy on the phone for hours about everything and nothing. Guy was such a spiritual person and gave his heart to his friends and family. He loved his mom, his son, his grandchildren, Randy's children, his family members, and so many friends. I am saddened for my loss and yet I know that I should be happy that he is free and not in any more pain and hopefully rejoicing in his reunion with his aunts and uncles and Randy. May that great singing voice of his be filling the heavens!! May Pat find some solace in that fact that so many people found Guy to be so very special and meaningful in their lives and may she know that Guy loved her unconditionally.
I will miss our special friendship and conversations, Guy Furlow.

So sorry & sad to hear of Guy's passing. Only met him a couple of times but the times that we did meet we had some good talks & several laughs. Had we lived closer I'm sure we'd have been great friends. I'm glad Monica Lett & Guy's sister Hope Furlow had me draw a caricature of Guy in good humor. I believe he got a kick out of it. Keep on smiling, Guy!
