Obituary of Rose Marie Elder

Rose Marie Elder, 89, of 135 Camp St., passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 in her home. She was the widow of George A. Elder whom she married August 31, 1944 and who died August 16, 2013. Marie was born January 29, 1927, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Samuel E. and Louise Dispenza Palmer. She had owned and operated Palmer's China & Jewelry in Jamestown for 30 years. Marie was a member of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter & Paul Church, Zonta International, the Red Hatters, and enjoyed china painting with the Chautauqua County Porcelain Artists. Surviving are four children: Cynthia Caflisch of Tucson, Ariz., David Elder of Buffalo, Jon Elder of Jamestown and Kevin (Grant) Elder of Apex, N.C.; seven grandchildren: Anna and Mary Caflisch, Adam, Vanessa, Summer, Ian and Landon Elder; and a brother, Dr. Francis (Gilda) Palmer of Jamestown. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death in 1959 by a daughter, Diane Marie Elder. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7 in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter & Paul Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received in the church hall following the Mass Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
