Obituary of Gloria A. Whitmore

Gloria A. Whitmore, 79, of 274 Fairmount Ave. Jamestown, passed away at 1:39 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2016, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born January 23, 1937 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Albin Thure and Elma Carlson Nyberg. Before her retirement she was employed as a laboratory aide and ward clerk for W.C.A. Hospital where she worked for several years. She will be remembered as one who had a deep appreciation for mother nature and the outdoors. She loved taking long walks and car rides in the country and also loved spending time with her family camping in the woods. She also loved taking trips to the casino with her husband. Surviving are her husband, William A. Whitmore whom she married January 9, 1957, her four children, Mark T. (Kathleen) Whitmore of Gerry, NY, Candace R. (Tom) Swan of Fairfield, OH, Cynthia L. Carlson of Lakewood, NY, William A. Whitmore, Jr. of Buffalo, NY, six grandchildren, Thomas Swan, Jr., Taylor Swan both of Fairfield, OH, Alyssa Carlson, Alexa Carlson both of Lakewood, NY, Amelia Whitmore, William A. Whitmore, III both of Jamestown, NY. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Kenneth Nyberg and two sisters, Esther Rounds and Signe Sturges. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray, retired chaplain of W.C.A. Hospital will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016, prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Jamestown Audubon Society, 1600 Riverside Rd., Jamestown, NY 14701 or to a charity of one's choice.
