So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He was a colleague and friend from Love and Washington Schools. I have so many fond memories of the fun we all had teaching together. He brought so many life experiences to his teaching and exposed the students to things they could never have imagined. He is missed. Colleen

Dear Family,
It is with great sadness to read about Ed's passing. I was a fellow teacher at Washington School. He was well liked by students and staff and taught his subject well. The last time I saw him in town was a few months after Montie had passed.
He was always considerate of others and truly was interested in how life was treating me and my family.
May he be at peace and may it be of some comfort to the family that he is thought of and remembered so kindly.

My condolences the the family of "Mr. Grapka". I am one of the students who benefited as a student of this wonderful man. I was "one of the lucky ones" who was in his sixth grade class at Samuel G. Love school, I think 1973. All the kids loved him, yet for me, he held a special place. You see, he was one of the first upstanding male role models I had in my life and for this I thank him. He was always so happy, kind and I remember his big hands and how gentle he was with the kids.
Mr. Grapka was one of a kind, he introduced me to Charlie and the Chocolate factory, when he read to us every Friday with animation in his story telling. He would always make us popcorn on Fridays also. I recall this caused a stir with the PTA ladies, as they were selling popcorn on the same day. This is one of the first time I recall an adult "sticking up for the kids", Mr. Grapka told them, very matter a factly, I do not care what you are doing, but MY kids are getting popcorn on Fridays", and we did !
Again, I am sorry for your loss, yet you were all so blessed to have this man in your life. My only regret is that I did not contact him to make him aware of my high esteem for him, I hope he hears me now with his wings on.
Thank you for allowing me to contribute to this tribute. I shall always hold "Mr. Grapka" dear in my heart.
Sincerely, Shelly Pacheco

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I didn't know about all of Ed's educational accomplishments as an adult student, and his second career as a teacher. He was a nice person and will be missed.

My condolences to Ed's family and friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Ed when he was at Love School and I was beginning my career as a teacher substituting. He was a big help whenever I came in the building. I saw him at various JTA events as well and he was fun to be around. I remember his students responding to him with fondness and respect. His colleagues felt the same. Rest in Peace, Ed.INQ4p

Jenny, Carol, and Dave:
I am sorry to hear of the passing of your dad even though I know he lived a great life with many accomplishments. I remember your dad as a very intelligent, humorous, and witty man. When I began my teaching career as a substitute teacher in Jamestown he called me into his class. He introduced me to all his students and talked to me about attending PVCS. He really boosted my confidence by making me feel accepted at that school. For this I will always remember your dad as a wonderful person.
My condolences,
Kreg Abbey
