Obituary of Joyce F. E. Olson

Joyce F. E. Olson, 88, formerly of 29 Kinney St. Jamestown, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born April 10, 1928 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Edwin J. and Edna Palmeter Erickson. She was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School. Before her retirement in 2003, she was employed by the Family Services of Jamestown and the Chautauqua Region, where she worked as a custodian and evening receptionist for 39 years. She had also worked for the R.L. Polk Publishing Company, as a canvasser from 1960 to 1989. In earlier years she had worked for the former Crescent Tool Company and the former Montgomery Ward Catalog Store. Joyce was a longtime active member of the Camp St. United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school Superintendent. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, was a past officer of the DCOM, and served on the church council and enjoyed the Friday morning bible study group. She will be remembered for her love of sewing, making many items for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, wallpapering, doing the Post Journal puzzle page, reading and watching Wheel of Fortune. Surviving is a son, Randall C. (Beverly Heglund)) Olson of Jamestown, two grandsons, Keith R. (Missy) Olson of Falconer, NY, Craig R. Olson of Jamestown and two great grandchildren, Aspen and Matthew Olson, her sister-in-laws, Shirley Burch Erickson, Joan Grodevant Erickson, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger A. Olson whom she married June 10, 1950 and who died June 22, 2005, a son, Rodney D. "Tune" Olson who died June 26, 2001, two brothers, Richard D. Erickson, Edwin J. Erickson and a sister, Carol M.E. Stanton. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, in the Camp St. United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jennifer Delahoy, pastor will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the church on Thursday.
