Obituary of Dorothy E. Wood

Dorothy E. Wood, 91, formerly of Buffalo, NY, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, in the Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born December 15, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late William and Mina E. Weir Ashcroft. Dorothy was a 1942 graduate of Hutch-Tech High School in Buffalo, NY and in earlier years had been employed as a switchboard operator for the New York Telephone Company in Buffalo. While living in the Buffalo area she was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Tonawanda, NY for many years. Dorothy will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who loved spending time with her family and eating ice cream. Surviving are two daughters, Doreen Loll of Jamestown, NY, Barbara Kazmierczak of Buffalo, NY, a son, Harvey (Jennifer) Wood of Rushford, NY, six grandchildren, Robert Loll of Jamestown, Rebecca (James) Wood, Gregory, Stephanie and Sarah Kazmierczak and Christopher Wood all of Buffalo and two great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Harvey E. Wood whom she married October 28, 1950 in Buffalo, NY and who died April 22, 2004, and a grandson, Jeffrey Wood who died April 16, 2006. Her family would like to thank the current and former caregivers at Heritage Park in Jamestown where she received loving and compassionate care for the past five years. A private graveside service will be held at a later date, at the convenience of the family. Inurnment will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, NY. Visitation will not be observed.
