Obituary of Daniel C. Larson

Daniel C. Larson, 66, of 45 Smith Avenue, Celoron, died Monday August 15, 2016, in his home. A lifelong area resident, he was born February 19, 1950, the son of the late Reece and Winifred Johnson Larson. He was a 1968 graduate of Southwestern Central School and later earned a bachelor's degree in Art from Edinboro State College. Prior to his retirement due to ill health, he was employed by Jamestown Electroplating in quality control. He earlier had worked for Premier Die Casting. One of his passions was art and he created beautiful beaded and hand tooled leather knife sheaths and handmade knives as well as many other pieces. He also had a lifelong interest in the history of the Civil War, having read over 400 books on the subject. He spent many happy times at his family's camp, walking in the woods and hunting with his father. He hand built several flint lock rifles which he used, successfully, to hunt deer. Surviving are his son Christopher (Melinda) Larson of Jamestown; a granddaughter Maya Larson of Jamestown; a sister Sylvia (Larry) Stenander of Jamestown; a niece Cherie O'Toole; a nephew Matthew Stenander and two great nieces. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Norma May Larson, who died May 14, 2011. A private memorial gathering will be scheduled at the convenience of the family.
