Obituary of Phyllis Ann Cala

Phyllis Ann Cala,78, of South Main Street, Jamestown, died Tuesday August 30, 2016, in her home. A native of Franklinville, NY, she was born November 24, 1937, a daughter of the late Irvin and Alice Howard Acre. Following graduation from Franklinville High School she enrolled in Jamestown Business College. Prior to her retirement she had been employed by Rite Aid Pharmacy, Hills Department Store, Frewsburg Rest Home, Arthur Treacher's Restaurant and Jamestown Day Care. She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of AMVETS Auxiliary, where she served as Chaplin and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She also helped with the annual Lion Club Daisy Sale for many years. An avid New York Yankee fan, she was a member of several bowling leagues. The family wishes to thank the many family and friends who helped throughout these difficult times. Surviving are two children Joseph (Tammy) Cala of Belmont, NC and Cathleen (Christopher) Barber of Sinclairville; six grandchildren Zachary Johnson, Dylan Cala, Tanner and Devin Hartwell and Alexis and Jacob Barber; two great grandchildren Lukas and Lillie Cala and her companion of the last few years Harry Field. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Cala in 2011; a daughter Sara Jo Hartwell; siblings Howard and Robert Acre, Shirley McLeod, Seroba Bellardo and Patricia Winterhalter and step father Homer Clayson who raised her. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Michael Lennon will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
