Obituary of Russell L. Johnson

Russell Leo Johnson, Jr., 81, of 140 Aldren Ave. Jamestown, passed away at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016, in W.C.A. Hospital. An area resident for most of his life, he was born October 23, 1934 in Kane, PA, the son of the late Russell L. and Elda Pratt Johnson. He was a 1952 graduate of Jamestown High School, attended Jamestown Community College and received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Drexel University in 1959. Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Army and following his active duty served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 20 years retiring as a Captain. Before his retirement, he was employed by the Weber-Knapp Company retiring as a senior engineer after 38 years of dedicated service. In earlier years he had worked for the AT&T Company in Philadelphia, PA. He was a member of the Christ First United Methodist Church, the Ingjald Lodge 65, Independent Order of the Vikings, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Society of Manufacturing Engineer's. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Gloria Ruth Pitts Johnson whom he married August 29, 1959, a son, Gregory Russell Johnson (late Donna) of Indianapolis, IN, two daughters, Lorinne Lee Johnson (Tim Przepiora) of West Ellicott, Michelle Rae Johnson (Craig Benson) of Jamestown, NY, four grandchildren, Gregory Russell Johnson, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Christine Hamilton (Eric) of Norman, OK, Chelsey Alexis Ojeda (Chachi) of Fort Bragg, NC, Garrett Devon Jones of Jamestown, a great grandson, Liam Rey Ojeda, a brother, Rodney Johnson (Dew) of Bemus Point, NY, a sister, Suzanne Feesstra (late Jan) of Flower Mound, TX, a sister in law Jean Johnson of Jamestown as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Ronald P. Johnson. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Christ Chapel of Christ First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Natalie Hanson, pastor will officiate. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd.
