Obituary of Frances J. Johnson
Frances J. Johnson, 91, formerly of Ellicott Oaks Apartments, died Tuesday November 8, 2016, in Lutheran.
A lifelong Jamestown resident, she was born May 10, 1925, the daughter of the late Austin and Judith Norquist Anderson, Sr.
She was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School. She later attended Syracuse University and Geneseo State Teacher's College and graduated from Harcum College, Bryn Mawr, PA
Prior to her retirement she was employed as a kindergarten teacher in Mayville and Westfield. She earlier worked for Jamestown Telephone Company as an operator.
For many years she was an active member of Christ First United Methodist Church where she chaired the hospitality committee for 10 years. She was also a member of the former Epworth Christ United Methodist Church, having served as president of the United Methodist Women and Service Guild and was a member of the administrative board. Other memberships and offices include Shrine Club Auxiliary chaplain, Norden Women's Club past treasurer and Consistory Women past president.
She volunteered for the Parkinson's Association and was a kindergarten grandmother at Roger Elementary School.
Surviving is a daughter Martha (Glenn) Haire of Sinclairville; son-in-law Thomas (Brenda) Lang of Jamestown; four grandchildren Ashley Lang Piazza and Katie (Dan) Sampson both of Jamestown and James (Jeanette) Larvick and Shannon Larvick both of Louisville, KY and three great grandchildren Landen Piazza, Annaleis Rose Piazza and Angelina Piazza all of Jamestown.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Henry Johnson, whom she married August 18, 1956 and who died November 30, 1996; a daughter Mary Beth Lang in 1997; a brother Austin Anderson, Jr. and longtime friend Kathryn Parker.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ Chapel of the Lutheran Home.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the chapel at LSS.
