Obituary of Lois Keyes
Lois A. Keyes, 83, of 50 Howard St. Fredonia, NY, formerly of Lakewood, NY, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016, in the Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, NY, surrounded by her loving family.
A Jamestown area resident for most of her life, and a graduate of Jamestown High School, Lois was born November 21, 1932 in Buffalo, NY a daughter of the late Alfred J. and Ruth Seitz Roth.
Before her retirement years, she was a claims adjustor for the Sloan-Melhuish Insurance Company for many years and also worked at the former Marine Midland Bank.
She was a member of the former Westminster Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, NY and most recently the Laona United Methodist Church, Fredonia, NY. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and enjoyed attending and leading bible studies. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Chautauqua Koinonian Community. Over the years she was active in the Westminster Presbyterian Food Cupboard and volunteered at St. Susan's Center in Jamestown for 13 years. She served as an ecumenical minister, bringing communion to residents at the Heritage Park Nursing Home and the Frewsburg Rest Home. Lois also ministered in the prison program at the Brocton Correctional Facility.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother who made life special for her family by calling everyone on their birthday and singing "Happy Birthday" to them. She was a strong influence to her children and her grandchildren. She loved playing Pinochle at the Beaver Club and held a special place in her heart for the "The Circle of Love", a group of breast cancer survivor's that she volunteered for.
Lois's family would also like to acknowledge Dr. Anthony Bartholomew for his wonderful care not only as her physician but as a special friend as well and to Rev. Michael Spell who was a very important part of her life this last year following the passing of her husband "Chuck".
Surviving are her four children, Stephen Keyes of Mayville, NY, Karen (Norm Struzynski) Zobel of Fredonia, NY, Linda Boney of Wilmington, NC, Cindy (Mark) LeBaron of Jamestown, NY, eight grandchildren, Kristy (Scott) Rowley of Indiana, PA, Kali Keyes of Uppsala, Sweden, Stephanie (David) Stevens of Fredonia, Sarah (Rick) Kiechenwitz of Fredonia, Jessi (Jonny) Biguenet of New Orleans, LA , John (Katie) Boney of NYC , Scott (Rachel) LeBaron of Pittsburgh, PA, Katy (Cory) Whitmore of Jamestown, eight great grandchildren, Aiden Rowley, Sophie and Carter Stevens, Connor, Natalie and Riley LeBaron, Lauren and Carson Whitmore and a sister, Jeanne Sampson of Jamestown.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles B. "Chuck" Keyes whom she married June 17, 1951 and who died December 11, 2015.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Spell, pastor of the Laona United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
