Obituary of Nicholas R. Sabino

Nicholas R. Sabino, 94, of Brookdale of Lakewood, 220 Southwestern Dr. Lakewood, NY, went to meet the Lord at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, November 27, 2016, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born September 5, 1922 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Antonio and Maria Moccia Sabino. Nicholas was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Syracuse University under the Army Special Training Program. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from November 14, 1942 to January 11, 1946, during World War II, assigned to the ordinance headquarters in England, Germany and France. During his tour of duty he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the American Service Medal. Before his retirement, he worked for several area factories but his most rewarding job was working with his Godson, Richard Piazza at Piazza Carpet and Tile Store. He loved meeting many nice customers over the years. He was faithful member of the Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and was an usher at mass for many years. In earlier years, he was a coach for the CYO Baseball and Basketball teams. He was also an assistant scout master for the Boy Scouts of America. Nicholas enjoyed golfing, caring for his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, tinkering around the house and playing with his daughters dog "Maggie". Surviving is a daughter, Delores Rudy, RN of Rochester, NY, a sister, Mary Grassi of Jamestown, a brohter, Sam (Marilyn) Sabino of Jamestown, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, the former Ann Manno Sabino, two brothers, Patsy Sabino, John Sabino, three brother-in-laws, Sal Grassi, Pat Manno, Robert Manno, a sister-in-law, Frances Sabino and three nephews, James Grassi, John Grassi and Robert Manno, Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Apostles Parish, St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday (today) in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 4:45 p.m. today in the funeral home.
