Obituary of Dorothy S. Anderson

Dorothy S. Anderson, 86, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016, in her home. An area resident for most of her life, she was born January 17, 1930 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Dr. Harold H. Saxton and Mollie Harrison Saxton. Dorothy was a graduate of Mayville Central School and earned her secretarial degree from Jamestown Business College. Before her retirement she was Secretary for Ring Division of Producto Machine Company, formerly Ring Punch and Die, where she worked for many years. In later years, Dorothy worked at the Chautauqua Institution. She also served as an election inspector for Chautauqua County for several years. Dorothy was an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Bishop Overs Guild, the Wednesday Group, the outreach committee and was a board member for the Thrift Shop. She fondly remembered her mission trip to Honduras. She was a member of the Koinonia of Jamestown and Chautauqua County and a former member of the Thule Lodge. Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted and caring mother and grandmother who loved taking care of her home, especially her garden. She was an animal lover who also enjoyed knitting, dancing and was known for her skills as an excellent seamstress. Surviving are two daughters, Christine A. (William) Dinan of Hopkinton, NH, Sally A. (David) Hootnick of Manlius, NY and Chautauqua, NY, two sons, Steven E. (Christine) Anderson of Jamestown, Mark W. (Heather Engesetter) Anderson of Roscoe, IL, five grandchildren, Alexandra Hootnick of Syracuse, NY, Benjamin Hootnick of Brooklyn, NY, Amanda Anderson of Dallas, TX, Samantha Kapuscinski of Bemus Point, NY, Nicholas Anderson of Jamestown, a brother, John Saxton of Mission Viejo, CA, a sister, Anne Smith of Mayville, NY and many close friends and neighbors. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016, in St. Luke's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Luke Fodor, rector will officiate. Inurnment will be in the St. Luke's Episcopal Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the undercroft of the church, during a reception provided by the Bishop Overs Guild.
