Obituary of Catherine C. Kettle

Catherine C. Kettle, 92, of Memory Garden, 560 Fairmount Ave. Jamestown, NY, formerly of 11 Webster St. Lakewood, NY, passed away at 5:16 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born October 27, 1924 in Westfield, NY a daughter of the late John and Emma Schmidt Carlson. She was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School and a longtime member of the 100 Member Club of JHS. She was also very active in the planning of her class reunions for many years. Catherine was very proud of the Lakewood community serving as a member of the Women's Club of Lakewood, the Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers and the American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation. She also volunteered at the Fenton Historical Society. When she wasn't volunteering for her many organizations she enjoyed knitting, quilting and playing bridge. Surviving are her four daughters, Susan Ptaszek and her husband Joseph of Pinehurst, NC, Betsy Swanson and her husband Mark of Mayville, NY, Martha Kettle Johnson of Lakewood, NY, Amy Schnurr and her husband Mark of Yardley, PA, nine grandchildren, Emily Ptaszek and her husband Chris Votolato, Michael Ptaszek and his wife Brooke, Jeff Swanson, Scott Swanson, Sarah Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Katherine Johnson, Evan Schnurr, Brandon Schnurr, one great granddaughter, Joanna Ptaszek, two step-daughters, Mary Heath (late James) of Mayer, AZ, Barbara Coon and her husband Charles of Syracuse, NY, a sister Marie Nelson of Jamestown and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Kettle whom she married June 5, 1946 and who died May 24, 1974, a sister, Margaret C. Knott who died January 28, 2016 and a step-grandson, Michael Coon who died October 20, 1995. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016, in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Gary Nelson, her Godson, will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2016, in the funeral home.
