Obituary of Delbert S. Seekings

Delbert S. Seekings, Sr., 88, formerly of 1079 East Second St. Jamestown, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2016, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, he was born March 15, 1928 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Albert and Ethel Seekings. Before his retirement he was employed by the City of Jamestown Sanitation Department for over 35 years. He was a member of the New York State Teamsters Union in Syracuse, NY. He was well known for repairing and selling used bicycles and was an avid fan of NASCAR Racing. His favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. In previous years he loved to go to the races at Stateline Speedway. Surviving are his wife Edna Riel Seekings whom he married September 16, 1951, three sons, Delbert Seekings, Jr., Martin Seekings, William Riel all of Jamestown, three daughters, Rebecca Seekings, Sarah Millward both of Jamestown, Patricia Seekings of Buffalo, a step-son, Albert Riel of Buffalo, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Seekings, two grandchildren, Brandi Riel, Wesley Havers, a great grandchild, two step-children, Judy Havers, Andrew Riel, four sisters, Gladys Trickle, Eva Hammond, Alice Wright, Ellen Keane and three brothers, Ralph, Roy, and Howard Seekings, and two daughter-in-laws, Jannene Seekings and Kathy Riel. The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund, chaplain of Heritage Park will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Kiantone, NY. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Friday in the funeral home.
