Obituary of Doris M. Ferry

Doris M. Ferry, 87, of 28 East Lake St, Celoron, NY, went to be with her heavenly father and is reunited with her husband Leon, at 8:57 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2016, in Brookdale of Lakewood. An area resident for most of her life, she was born October 21, 1929 in Cherry Grove, PA, a daughter of the late Earl and Ariel Sage McCulla. Before her retirement she was employed by the former Murphy's Department Store for 15 years. Doris was a former communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Lakewood and enjoyed participating in many church activities. She also volunteered to help with church programs such as visiting church members who were homebound and sending out cards to members of the church for their birthdays and get well wishes. When she was not participating in church functions she liked to spend her time reading, playing games, cooking, baking, finding the best deals while shopping and visiting family. Doris always put her family before herself, spoiling them in any way she could and praying for each of them on a daily basis. Doris will be remembered for her fabulous cooking, her abundant love, her giving spirit, her listening ear and her heartfelt advice. She will truly be missed by her family and friends. Surviving are two sons, Robert J. (Amelia) Ferry of CT, John R. Ferry of Jamestown, two daughters, Carol M. (Jim) Toth, Karen L. (Larry) Dowdall both of Jamestown, seven grandchildren, Jim (Kearie) Toth of NC, Dan (Denise) Toth of TN, Chris (Claudia) Toth of Jamestown, Sara Lee Dowdall of OH, Summer Ferry of Fredonia, Ember and Sage Ferry of Jamestown, eight great grandchildren, DJ, Joshua, Hannah, Matthew, Taylor, Molly, Brianna, Jasmine, four sisters, Wilma Geer, Ann Ward, Gwenda Cole all of PA, Ruth Virley of MI, and two brothers, Bill McCulla, Daryl McCulla both of PA as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon J. Ferry whom she married December 24, 1948 and who died December 6, 1992, a brother, Chuck McCulla and a sister, Ethel Gregerson. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel Keefe, pastor of the Jamestown Community Chapel will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016, in the funeral home.
