Obituary of Sharon L. Valvo

Sharon Linda Valvo, 77, formerly of Jamestown, died peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2016. She passed away under the loving care of her caregivers at the Middle Cheshire Home in Canandaigua, where she had resided close to family. She was born August 16, 1939 in Falconer, NY, a daughter of the late Samuel and Angeline Tedesco Valvo. Sharon was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church where she was active in the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Her service to church and community involved collecting the offerings in church, as well as visiting the sick and delivering newspapers at WCA Hospital. In more recent years, she experienced much joy at the Chautauqua Day Care in Jamestown and later at Brighter Day in Canandaigua. Surviving are two nieces, Valerie (Erik) Knutsen of Victor, NY and Cynthia (Timothy) Haller of Chicago, IL and Naples, FL; two grandnieces, Erica Knutsen Beasley and Jessica Haller; a grandnephew, Derek Knutsen; and a great-grandniece, Maya Bianca Beasley. They all brought Sharon great joy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Antoinette Minati; grandnephew, Matthew Haller; and her longtime companion, Michael Martorano. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canandaigua on December 21, 2016. Locally, a funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Michael Lennon, of St. James Church, will officiate. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. until noon Tuesday prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Center.
